Session 03 · Critique

When AI Encounters Geography当 AI 遇见地理学

Deepfakes and GeoAI Collapse深度伪造与 GeoAI 崩塌

About this session

The second session asks how lived experience, place, and care can guide GeoAI. This session puts those ideas to work: what can they reveal when AI generates geographical representations or learns repeatedly from synthetic data? Focusing on Deepfake Geography and connecting it to GeoAI Collapse and posthuman cartography, we examine how geographical representation, place differences, and knowledge production are being reshaped. We consider how critique can generate new geographical knowledge and help us rethink responsibility in relations between people, models, and places.

Questions for discussion

  1. What happens to place differences when synthetic geospatial data are repeatedly reused?
  2. How does treating mapping as a relationship between human and nonhuman actors change responsibility?
